2023_Code Enforcement-1
The Code Compliance Division is responsible for enforcing property maintenance codes throughout Yuma both on residential and commercial properties. These codes ensure owners maintain their property which helps to protect citizens’ health, safety, and welfare.

There are many types of City Codes; Code Compliance takes an active role in enforcing all Zoning Codes and International Building Codes. The purpose of Code Compliance is to promote pride in our city by preserving property values and keeping our community clean. This Division conducts approximately 1,500 inspections each fiscal year.

How are Codes Enforced?

The Code Compliance process is typically initiated in several ways:

In response to a phone call or written complaint by a citizen, reported by departments within the City, or other outside agencies, such as Animal Control or a utility company.

They can also be brought to our attention if they are noticeable life safety issues observed by our Code Compliance Specialists as they respond to an original complaint driven violation.

How do I Notify the City about a Possible Code Violation?

You may inquire about a possible violation or file a complaint about a code violation in person at our office, in writing, by email, or by phone. You do not have to identify yourself, however if you choose not to, we might not be able to respond to you with the results of the inquiry. Please be prepared with the following information:

  • The address of the property.
  • A detailed description of the situation.
