Child/Family Crimes Unit
Detectives assigned to the Yuma Police Department’s Child & Family Crimes Unit are responsible for the investigations of crimes against children, domestic violence, and internet crimes against persons. These detectives are specially trained in the forensic interviewing of children, victim sensitive investigative techniques, and digital evidence collection and processing. These detectives are also responsible for sex offender registration verification and community notification of sex offenders.
Child & Family Crimes Detectives work in close partnership with Amberly’s Place a collaborative, community-based victim advocacy center. Amberly’s Place provides victim focused facilities and services to promote and support innovative, multi-disciplinary approaches to the investigation, prosecution, and intervention of child and family crimes.
Child & Family Crimes Detectives also work in partnership with the Arizona Department of Child Safety, Catholic Community Services – Safe House, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The Child and Family Crimes Unit has a detective assigned full time to the United States Marshal’s Wanted Task Force and two detectives collaterally assigned to the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Narcotic/Street Crimes
Narcotics and Street Crimes Unit The Yuma Police Department Narcotics and Street Crimes Unit is responsible for handling investigations concerning illegal narcotic use, possession, smuggling, sales, and manufacturing. Detectives assigned to this unit also work with other county and federal narcotics tasks force in their efforts at combatting illegal narcotic crimes.
Property Crimes Unit
The Property Crimes Unit is responsible for the follow-up investigations of residential and business burglaries, stolen vehicles, arson, narcotics, and firearms.
The Property Crimes Unit has a detective assigned full time to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Regional Auto Theft Team Law Enforcement Response (RATTLER). This unit focuses on the investigation of property crimes involving stolen vehicles, related components and insurance fraud.
Violent Crimes Unit
Detectives assigned to the Yuma Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit are responsible for the investigations of homicides, robberies, and felony assaults. These detectives are specially trained in crime scene management, interview & interrogation, and death investigation. Violent Crimes Detectives are focused on highly detailed investigations and are adept at conducting complex case investigations.
