 MAIN STREET WATER TREATMENT FACILITY

The City of Yuma's water treatment facilities use Colorado River water to produce a continuous supply of drinking water necessary to meet the needs of Yuma's residents, businesses, and industries.  With two water treatment locations, the Main Street Water Treatment Plant can produce up to 40 million gallons daily (mgd), and the Agua Viva Water Treatment Facility can produce up to 20 mgd.  The Main Street Water Treatment Plant has been producing drinking water for the Yuma area since 1892.  It is thought to be one of the first water treatment plants west of the Mississippi River to filter its water.  The 9E Water Treatment Plant began operation in 1983, and was capable of producing 1 mgd of water.  In 2009, a major expansion project of this plant was completed, and today, the Agua Viva Water Treatment Facility, (formerly the 9E Water Treatment Plant) is capable of treating both surface water and ground water with a production capacity of 20 mgd.
