HOME MenuInclusive Play Project
The City of Yuma Parks and Recreation team is proud to collaborate with the Liggett family to enhance the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground (282 N 12th Ave) with the addition of a new inclusive play area.
What is an inclusive playground?
Inclusive playgrounds include everyone. They are thoughtfully designed playgrounds that provide a safe place where children of all abilities can play together, and are developmentally appropriate for children with and without disabilities.
A truly inclusive playground takes away barriers to exclusion, providing a positive experience for all.
What is the difference between accessible and inclusive playgrounds?
The main difference between an accessible and inclusive playground is how the design affects the user’s experience.
Any playground that can be entered or reached without challenge can be considered accessible. However, an accessible playground does not always create the optimal space for everyone to play and interact with each other.
Inclusive playgrounds go above and beyond the minimum standards of accessibility to ensure every child can fully engage with the equipment without limitations. They create a truly inclusive experience so every child at the playground can feel like they belong.
