The City of Yuma's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is the City's financial plan for the improvement and/or construction of municipal infrastructure. The purpose of the City's CIP is to identify and address infrastructure needs while adopting the goals and policies set forth by City Council and the City of Yuma General Plan. Our mission is to deliver quality public services and to advance the social and economic well-being of our present and future citizens. The role infrastructure plays in delivering quality services cannot be overstated.
Infrastructure includes the basic physical structure, systems and facilities needed to provide services to residents such as sidewalks, streets, parks, fire stations, police facilities, and water and sewer systems. Infrastructure impacts the community and its economy heavily. Capital projects represent a significant investment in the construction of new infrastructure and the improvement or expansion of current infrastructure.
How does the City of Yuma define a Capital Improvement Project? The proposal is examined through the following questions:
- Does this project increase functionality or capacity to an existing asset?
- Does it extend the useful life of an asset?
- Does it upgrade essential parts of technology?
- Will it improve efficiency of the asset or reduce operating costs and/or enhance the quality of the services we provide to our community?
