Fair Housing is Your Right. Use It.

The federal Fair Housing Act of 1968 and the federal Fair Housing Act Amendments of 1988 prohibit discrimination. In 1968, just four days after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Fair Housing Act was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson honoring Dr. King’s work for civil rights. Fair Housing Laws protect against discrimination and the right to equal opportunity in home sales, rental, advertising, residential mortgage lending, homeowner's insurance, home improvement financing, and zoning.

The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination because of:

  • Race
  • Color
  • National Origin
  • Familial Status
  • Sex
  • Disability
  • Religion

Since 1996, the City of Yuma has hosted a Fair Housing Program to encourage all citizens to work for tolerance and equal opportunity in our community.
