Area motorists are advised that the City’s biannual pavement preservation program is gearing up for fall, with oil seal work beginning Oct. 12 and slurry seal beginning Nov. 5.
The City’s Public Works department administers surface treatments twice a year, in the spring and fall, to keep Yuma’s roadways in good condition. Surface treatments include oil, slurry, and chip sealants. Lane and street closures may cause temporary inconveniences. Once completed, the roadways will look better, have an extended life span, and be safer for drivers.
Pavement preservation hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some weekend work to minimize the impact to busier streets. Message boards will provide prior notification to motorists.
“In addition to a number of arterial and collector streets, we will focus on a number of City subdivisions,” said Public Works Manager Michael Flowers. “We ask residents for their patience and understanding when they encounter a work zone. In the end, our roads will have a proper seal, will look nice, and will provide an improved driving surface. Plus, we will have extended the life of the pavement at least five to eight years.”
To keep the community informed regarding ongoing roadway maintenance, the City’s contractor, Cactus Asphalt, and Public Works staff will contact affected properties 48-hours prior to scheduled maintenance. Impacted property owners will receive a door hanger that indicates the area where the roadway maintenance is taking place as well as the date and time. In addition, the City provides roadway maintenance notifications to the general public through the weekly Road Report, news releases, social media, and the City website.
Find a complete list of roadways and subdivisions to be preserved on the Pavement Preservation page of the City’s website. This page provides an interactive map where residents can zoom in on highlighted streets and click for that street’s scheduled maintenance date.
While roadwork is taking place, drivers should be aware of lane restrictions and road closures. Please anticipate delays on major roadways and allow more time to travel.
