School Zones
With school now open for both elementary districts and the high school districts, school zones are once again operational at numerous locations. Motorists are asked to please observe the posted school zone speed limit (from speed limit sign through the crosswalk) and to keep a keen eye out for pedestrians. No passing is permitted in school zones, including those on streets that have more than one lane of traffic per direction, such as 8th Street near Pecan Grove Elementary.
Avenue 3E Bridge, 24th Street to Gila Ridge Road - ADOT
Preliminary work is under way on a $7 million project to improve and widen the Avenue 3E Bridge located between Gila Ridge Road and 24th Street in Yuma, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The project is a cooperative effort between ADOT and the City of Yuma and is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.
The project includes widening the bridge over the railroad tracks from two to six lanes with a center median, new pavement, and pedestrian walkways. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during expansion of the bridge, which will be built to include three lanes each direction when complete. There will be some speed limit reductions during this project.
City of Yuma Street Maintenance
City workers will conduct crack seal operations the week of Monday, Aug. 13 in the following locations:
- Pheiffer Estates subdivision
- La Paloma Estates subdivision
Avenue C, 8th Street to 1st Street and Figueroa - Yuma County
Avenue C is open to local traffic only between 5th Street and Riverside Drive in this Yuma County street widening and City water main installation project. Through traffic should use Avenue B between 8th Street and 1st Street.
32nd Street, Auto Dealers - Private Improvements
32nd Street will experience a series of lane closures between Bonanza Avenue and Crest Drive for water and sewer connections to be made to a private business. The speed limit on 32nd Street will be reduced to 25 mph in this work zone. Work is scheduled to take place for one month. Following completion of Bonanza to Crest project the right eastbound lane of 32nd Street will be closed between Chiquita Drive/Chevy Lane and Bonanza Avenue for approximately one month to give crews room to install a right turn lane.
32nd Street, Avenue A to Avenue B
Traffic signals installed at the 32nd Street intersections with 15th Avenue and 21st Drive have been fully activated. Crews will return in several weeks to lay permanent lane markers on 32nd Street; otherwise, this project is mostly complete, with few if any traffic disruptions expected.
Araby Road Near 24th Street - Century Link
Century Link will be upgrading their facilities on Araby Road near 24th Street. Sidewalks will be closed during this monthlong project.
