Safe Driving Tip: When making turns, either right or left, at an intersection or from a private drive, the driver needs to turn into the closest lane available for the direction they are traveling. The exception is at an intersection with a double right or left turn lane. In this situation you should be turning into the lane that corresponds to the turn lane you are turning from. At an intersection with single left and right turn lanes, where the vehicles making the turn are turning onto a street with at least two lanes for their direction of travel, vehicles traveling in opposite directions should be able to make a right and left hand turn to head the same direction if they turn into the proper lane. The current fine for an improper turn violation is $263.00 plus a $20.00 case processing fee in The Yuma Municipal Court.
