05/10/2012 | Sgt. Clint Norred, Patrol

On Thursday, May 10, 2012 at approximately 2 pm, a Yuma Police Officer saw Carlos Arellano, 24 years old, in the 1900 block South 2nd Avenue. Arellano was wanted for questioning in reference to the attempted homicide that occurred on Tuesday at the Walnut Avenue Trailer Park.

Arellano retreated into a nearby residence and refused to come out. Members of the Yuma Police Special Enforcement Team and Hostage Negotiations responded to the area. Just after 3 pm, Arellano surrendered to members of the Special Enforcement Team without further incident.

Arellano will be questioned in reference to the May 8th shooting. That investigation revealed that a group of people were in the trailer park when the victim, Guss Kasper 47 years old of Yuma, was shot once in the back. The group fled the scene prior to police arrival and Kasper was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Kasper remains hospitalized.

The identities of those in the group remain under investigation and police detectives are seeking any information about their identities and whereabouts.

The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with any information about this case to please call Yuma Police Detective Jesse Escott at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous. Please refer to case number 12-25598.
