Road Report for May 3, 2012
05/03/2012 | Dave Nash, Public Affairs Coordinator
32nd Street Reconstruction, Avenue A to West of Avenue B
Work on this project is currently concentrated on the intersection of 32nd Street and Avenue A. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction through the intersection. To accommodate left turns at this intersection, traffic signals will run green for only one direction at a time; this could cause backups and delays at this intersection. Duration of this phase of work is estimated at three weeks. During this time a temporary closure of Avenue A south of 32nd is planned - once in place motorists will be asked to detour using 8th Avenue and 36th Street.West of the Avenue A intersection, 32nd Street has two lanes of traffic open completely in each direction, with median/turn lane open as well.
Engler Avenue Water Main Extension, 16th St. to Calle Chapalla
Beginning Monday, May 7, work will commence on the waterline going in under Engler Avenue between 16th Street and Calle Chappalla, which is near Engler's southern end north of Interstate 8. Work will take place mostly on the east side right of way along Engler, so one lane of traffic will continue to flow in each direction, with flagmen on site to assist when needed. Access to the neighborhood will be maintained at all times.
City of Yuma Street Maintenance
City workers will conduct crack seal operations the week of Monday, May 7 in the following locations:
- Parkway Place subdivision
- Las Casitas subdivision
- 28th Street from Avenue B to 33rd Drive
- 33rd Drive from 24th Street to 28th Street
Avenue C, 8th Street to 1st Street and Figueroa - Yuma County
1st Street has been closed to through traffic from Figueroa Avenue to Riverside Drive. Through traffic should use Avenue B and 8th Street to connect between Avenue C and 1st Street.
The contractor is installing a new waterline at 1st Street, between Riverside Drive and Figueroa Avenue and connect to the existing 12" waterline at the intersection of Figueroa Avenue. In addition, the contractor will be removing and replacing the pavement as to realign the new roadway on this segment.
In the overall project, Yuma County is widening Avenue C from 8th Street to Figueroa Street and 1st Street. This will include placing a City Of Yuma water main down the middle of the road. Right now the heavy work is between 8th Street and 5th Street; a temporary surface is in place with narrow lanes. Lane restrictions continue up to Riverside Drive. The project work flow is moving north from 8th Street toward 1st Street. Be prepared for sections of Avenue C to be closed at times during this project. Follow detour signs or just plan ahead and use Avenue B instead.
