Misconduct With Weapons In Local Hotel Parking Lot - UPDATED

On Thursday, August 11th, 2011, just after midnight, a Yuma Police Officer conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a local hotel in the area of the Yuma Palms Mall.  The 17 year old male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was arrested for failure to provide identification. He was found to be in possession of an improvised explosive device (IED).

The IED was compact in size or smaller than a 12 ounce soda can and concealable on the body. The IED was secured by officers and the immediate area was controlled.  Hotel guests were contacted and sheltered in place.   The Marine Corps Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team responded to make the device safe. 

The suspect was taken into custody and booked for two counts of misconduct with weapons and possession of narcotic drugs.
