Registration Deadline Approaching For City Primary Election; Early Ballots Soon Available

Elections for Council, Judge to be Held Aug. 30 and Nov. 8
City residents will need to register to vote by next Monday for the City of Yuma's primary election. Early ballots will be mailed soon.
The Primary Election
The City's primary election will be held Aug. 30 for the purpose of nominating and/or electing candidates for three at-large seats on the City Council and one seat for Municipal Court Judge.
The last day to register to vote in the primary election is Monday, Aug. 1.
Registration and early ballot request forms are available from the office of the Yuma County Recorder, 410 S. Maiden Lane; call them with questions at 373-6034.
Early voting begins Thursday, Aug. 4. Additionally, early voters who did not request mail-in ballots may vote early in person at the County Recorder's Office beginning Aug. 4.
The General Election
The general election will be held Nov. 8 for the purpose of electing candidates in the event that seats remain following results of the primary election. Candidates may be elected to office in the primary if they receive at least 50 percent plus one vote among ballots cast.
Those elected to these positions would each serve a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2012, and ending Dec. 31, 2015.

The last day to submit a request for an early ballot for the primary election is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19. - The last day to submit a request for an early ballot for the general election is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.
- The last day to register to vote in the general election is Monday, Oct. 10.
- The last dates to request special assistance in voting from the County Recorder's Office: Aug. 19 for the primary and Oct. 28 for the general.
