1/23/2013The City of Yuma and the Yuma Police Department are dedicated to providing the best possible service to the citizens of Yuma. Staffed with a supervisor and four full-time Animal Control Officers, the Animal Control Unit responds to calls of animals disturbing, loose animals, animal cruelty cases, injured animals, and a host of other situations involving domesticated animals. Yuma's Animal Control Officers are civilian employees authorized to investigate and enforce the Yuma City Codes pertaining to animals.
Our Animal Control Personnel are dedicated to providing humane treatment for all animals in their care and each Officer receives specialized training by the National Animal Control Association in animal safety, handling, apprehension techniques, and capture equipment. Animal Control Officers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Based on our documented pattern of service calls, the unit is assigned to work shifts from 7:30 am to 9 pm every day of the week including weekends and holidays. During periods when there are no Animal Control Officers on duty, an on-call Animal Control Officer is available for animal related emergencies such as injured animals or bite cases.
If you are in need of a veterinarian for your animal, there are several outstanding veterinarians to choose from in the community. Please consult the internet or local listings to find a veterinarian.
The Animal Control Unit was formed in January of 2012 and consists of:
