The Traffic Unit was formed in August of 1977 and consisted of 5 Motor Officers. They were responsible for all traffic related problems, as well as accident investigation and traffic enforcement. Today, this unit consists of:

The Civilian Investigators primarily investigate traffic collisions, but will handle parking violations and traffic hazards. This allows the Motor Officers to concentrate on traffic enforcement and handling other civil or criminal traffic issues.

Motor training is maintained throughout the Officer's career in the Traffic Unit. The Officer's tour will last between 2 and 5 years, unless they obtain a permanent position.
